CGMS Denial Day

Thank you to Gina Capone
for raising awareness
amongst the Dbloggers

Check out TuDiabetes as to why/how/when this day started
SUM posted the insurance company denial causing a whirlwind of reactions

CGMS Central

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I personally have not opted for a CGMS yet. I don't even have health insurance in which to opt for anything right now.
I know the CGMS would benefit me greatly. It would show trends that I have tried to "see" for myself. I have so many in a week that I cannot keep track of which end is up.
It pains me greatly to know that PWT1Ds are struggling to get a CGMS. It angers me that a company would tell someone that something is not medically necessary. They are not in the medical field and I highly doubt they have any health issue remotely close to being chronic. Who are they to say what someone needs?? Who are they to deem what is medically necessary for a person??
And it is not just the CGMS. Insulin pumps are being denied PWDs too.
Technology has come so far in the diabetes world, why is it we are reverting backward? And the reverting is occurring more and more because Americans are without health insurance. Or their plan has been changed by an employer. Or someone has lost a job. And yet the health insurance companies continue to "define" those that are pre-existing chronic liabilities. They decide what is costly and what is not. They decide what is helpful and what is not.
How about the person with the chronic illness, along with their doctor (medical team in some cases), make that decision? Where are Our choices?
I agree 100%!!!!! I haven't requested a CGMS yet either - but was planning to do so soon. It's so frustrating to know it will probably be denied before I even ask for it. Grrrr.
You are so welcome Gina!!!
I think a lot of people "hear" us.
It is just a matter of them Listening then acting....
Hi Karen,
We have enough to deal with daily as T1s. How is it that a company is allowed to make it more difficult??
Here's to today, raising awareness and hopefully by the time you decide to request the CGM and I actually have health insurance a denial letter is a thing of the past. Let it be in the Near future.
Hey,
Sorry to hear that CGMS is denied most often by Insurance companies.I take care of few Diabetics in a small town in India which includes about 15 Type one patients.I never had any patients on CGMS as it is expensive and most dont have insurance.My patients manage somehow.Dont lose hope if you dont have CGMS. Almost 80 percent of world type 1 diabetics will never have access to it in their life time.Stil they will leave a fruitfull and satisfying life
Thank you Charakan for your comment.
I was just looking at your blog.
It is nice to know that Doctors do care, even if they live/work in India. ;-)
